Treehouse Theatre
Interactive theatre and drama for the history curriculum,
plus story telling, pantomime, festival fun and more...
Treasure Island

Touring November 2024 to August 2025
'Treasure Island’ is a colourful and interactive family-friendly pantomime, with live music, singing and dancing along, adventure, excitement, laughter and surprises,
and of course plenty of audience interaction.
If you had a Treasure Map, where would it take YOU?

laugh, join in, gasp, sing along, go home smiling...

-
We stage our Pantomime in-the-round rather than on a distant stage, allowing the whole audience to see and hear properly. Its a very immersive experience, with the actors surrounded by and interacting with the audience. The action feels VERY close!
-
Around 30 audience members can have a small part in the show, from minor speaking parts to interactive scenery (strictly volunteers only - we never pick on people!). It makes each performance unique to its audience, and adds a layer of fun and involvement far beyond dragging unwilling participants onto stage, or just shouting from your seat.
-
We are a small company, our cast are very skilled, and every show is written for specific actors to perform using their unique talents....things which make live theatre vivid and exciting.
-
We write for children, families, and people with disabilities of all ages. Age guide 4+. Shows are 1 hr 15min with no interval. We have a 'soft start' - during the first 15 minutes you can volunteer to be in the show and have a quick practice of your part, and anyone who's anxious can meet the baddie beforehand so that they can relax and enjoy the show. We all laugh together: there's no jokes which might make you feel uncomfortable in the company of kids

A note on accessibility
Theatre is best when everyone's invited.
All our performances are relaxed and informal, designed to be welcoming to people who might not often go to to the theatre, including young children and people with disabilities.

We try to hold performances open to the public which are accessible on public transport, or are right at the heart of the community we want to perform for, at sensible family friendly prices
All performances include embedded sign language. This is aimed at people with additional needs, to support their understanding, so we use simple sign language such as Makaton and Signalong rather than BSL.
We have widget signs to borrow for non-verbal audience response,
and a tactile bag to help visually impaired people connect with the action.
We welcome everyone to all performances, but some shows will be especially suitable for people with learning disabilities and their families and carers, where we aim to bring our local learning disabled community together and create a supportive, social, friendly environment in which to relax and enjoy theatre, meet friends and make new ones.
STOP PRESS!!
We are absolutely delighted to announce that we've been awarded Arts Council funding to write our Pantomime
with help from ALL OF YOU!
Where does the Treasure Map lead YOU decide!
Environmental Responsibility
We are committed to making all our work as sustainable as possible - thinking about how we make and re-use
the props and costumes, how we travel around,
and how our audiences reach the shows.
Accessibility
We want to make our work as accessible as possible.

We have been working with
Chris Flounders from Simply Training for the past 3 years
to embed sign language in our shows.
There will be large print scripts, Widget Symbol audience response cards, and a sensory bag to borrow for performances, and a list of audience responses that can be pre-programmed into a sensory voice pad.

Treasure Island
Story Creation - September 2024
Thanks to Arts Council funding, we'll be creating the story for this year’s Pantomime - 'Treasure Island'
- with help from all of you!

We'll perform the opening scene - YOU decide what happens next!

With our audience (yes YOU!) firmly in charge, we'll invent an entirely new Cinderella Story together.
As each scene comes together, we'll perform it - along with anyone who wants to join in!
Expect performances which are hilarious, silly, collaborative, full of unexpected characters, monsters and plot twists!
What if...???
A journey into our collective imaginations, we ask What if?.......
What if the pirate ship sinks in a storm?
What if there's no treasure where X marks the spot?
What if Long Johns Silvers parrot is actually in charge of everything?
What if......

The ideas from these improvised performances will be gathered together, and from the amazing well
of audience creativity, the storyline for our winter pantomime will emerge!

Join in!
During September, we're performing ‘Treasure Island Adventures' at primary schools, adult day centres,
disability drama clubs, and venues and events.

Treasure Island Adventures September 2024
All of the improvised stories will be shared here - we invite you to read, enjoy, and tell us what you think of them!

The stories are very unique to their audiences, with 'in-jokes' and often a strange dream-like quality.
Its fascinating to see where different groups of people wander from the same starting point.

Any ideas that you really like?
Any characters you'd like to see more of?
What would YOU have contributed to the story?
